October 12, 2008 Size and Species: 10 Rainbows, 10" to 13" Flies Used: Grey Nymph Other Details: Fished under the bridge on Wolf Creek Road and caught ten in about 5-7 minutes. Only fished for that amount of time. Almost like fishing in a bucket really, but I was on the verge of getting skunked so it was fun.
July 30, 31 and August 1, 2008 Brown and Rainbow Trout Around 10 total Browns and Rainbows up to 10 inches Flies: Size 12 Golden Stoneflies, Size 14 Pheasant Tails, and Size 16 Caddis Larva. Other Details: Fished the Truckee River along highway 80 below River Ranch. Indicator nymphing.
July 26 and 27, 2008 Caught 6 Rainbows up to 12 inches Flies: Size 14 and 16 Red Copper Johns, Size 14 and 16 Hares Ears, Size 10 Black Stoneflies, and Size 14 Stimulator. Other Details: Hiked in and camped one night about 3 miles from trail at wolf creek road past Markleeville. Indicator nymphing during the day with lots of dry fly action in evening. Missed quite a few fish on drys. Sorry I don't have pics. My fishing partner and I both lost our cameras on the river earlier this summer :(
November 25, 2008 Size and Species: 19" Brown, 13" Rainbow Flies Used: #18 Green Bead Head Micro-Mayfly, #16 Red Copper John, #12 Prince Nymph. Other Details: This was my first fish caught on the "LT" after three trips to this river. Fished from the upper end of the meadow section up to the damn at Stampede Reservoir. Cloudy day with temps in the low to mid fifties. I saw more anglers than I expected on a Tuesday due to being Thanksgiving week.
October 24, 2008 18" Brown Trout and a Rainbow Flies Used: Stimulator with a Red Copper John dropper. Other Details: It was my first time ever on the East Walker, and as luck would have it I caught my first Brown Trout ever today. Landed 3 Browns mixed in with one fat little 15" Rainbow. I fished from about 9am until 4pm. I hoped to catch more fish, but I'm still fighting a steep learning curve.
Flies Used:Beaded Bird's Nest #14; Beaded Prince Nymph #16; Beaded Gordon's Prince #14/#16.
Other Details: Fished downstream from I5 bridge, through town at Prospect Access up to Mossbrae Falls, and in Dunsmuir at Gillis Street, and down I5 at Conant exit.

September 2008 19" Rainbow Fly Used: Orange Sofa Pillow #12 Details: Prior to fishing from a float tube, we casted along the shoreline. This 19 incher was the only fish I caught on the lake. We drove a long 7 mile 4x4 road to reach the lake and Fordyce Creek below the dam. It's a beautiful lake and not many people, probably due to the difficult drive.
Brown and Rainbow Trout 9" - 14" Flies Used: #20 Olive/Black WD-40, #18 PT, #16-18 Glow Bug. Other Details: Temperature was extremely cold. Typical winter conditions. Took some time to find the right depth because they are down deep but once you did, they really were on the grab. Best fishing took place from 10am - 3pm.
May 24, 2008 Rainbows and Browns: 7"-11" Fly Used: #18 Red Zebra Midge, #18 Black Copper John Other Details: Fished below the bridge on 395. Was a little cold and overcast but managed to pull out 6. Fishing was pretty good with all of the takes being subsurface using an indicator. Even though it was May, most of the activity was still taking place towards the bottom. Stick to small midge patterns and get your drift as dead as possible. Takes are subtle.
Flies Used: #18 Sawyer PT and #20 Black WD-40 Other Details: Fished near Bridgeport, CA below the first mile. Mostly pocket water this far down because of low flow but did alright. Flies have to be small and fish are in the deepest water possible.
May 26, 2008 Rainbows and Browns: 10"-13" Fly Used: #18 CDC Blue-Winged Olive, #18 BWO Cripple, #22 Black WD-40 Other Details: Fished the public section down in the canyon. Fishing was excellent with mainly all of the action taking place on the surface. Only managed to land one due to small flies and the fact that I could not set for my life. Fishing was extremely good though and BWO and Baetis being the primary bug activity. Some small caddis were coming off as the heat picked up! Summer is sure about here.

Putah Creek, CA January 16, 2009 Caught one 22" Rainbow Fly: Beaded Prince Nymph #16 Other Details: Fished the tailout of the slow section below the campground and then upstream at and below the Hwy 120 bridge. Indicator nymphing was the ticket at this time of year. The weather was sunny; cool in the morning warming into the 60's.
Trinity River, CA February 2008 Steelhead Flies: Tan Beaded Stonefly #8-#10 and a Blue/Green Beaded Soft Hackle #14. Other details: Floated the Trinity with a guide. Indicator nymphing, no weight added to the leader.
Caught 4 Rainbows up to 19" Flies Used: Orange Stimulator #12; Dark Lord #14 Details: Fished four miles upstream of the town of Walker, CA and some other spots farther upriver.
Details: I fished with my buddy, Sean and his friend Alan. We fished Putah Creek at "the point" and downstream a bit from 7am to 4:30pm. After a brief malfunction of my polarized sunglasses, Sean and I stalked these huge rainbows. Sean had a higher vantage point and helped time the setting if the hook. I battled this monster for almost an hour. A fish of a lifetime!
Silver Creek, CA September 26, 2008 Size and Species: 5, 1 Brookie and 4 Rainbows. Brookie: 10" and Rainbows:12-14" Fly Used: Elk Hair Caddis #16 Other Details: Fished near Lake Alpine on Ebbett's Pass. At first I thought there were only brooks in the stream but decided to fish right under the dam and caught 4 rainbows in 5 minutes. 3 of them at this good undercut bank with a riffle in the middle, and 1 in a big slowwwwwwww moving pool about 3 1/2 feet deep.
Upper Kern River, CA September 12th and 13th, 2008 Size and Species: Rainbows from 8" to 14" Flies Used: #10 Stoneflies, #10 Kern Emergers, #12 and #14 Rubberleg Stimulator, #12 Dave's Hopper and #12 Foam Hopper Other Details: Hiked in on the "Forks of the Kern" trail again and camped out for a night. Fished for a few hours the first evening and caught a few smaller fish on the Dave's Hopper. Fished all day the next day. There was about an hour and a half span in the afternoon when fish were taking our Hopper's almost every other cast.
Yuba River, CA March 14 and 15, 2008 20" Rainbow Trout Flies: Tungsten Bead Rubber Leg Copper John #12 and a Black Stone Fly #10. Other details: Caught 2 Rainbows and fished with Don Van Schenck. Other Details: It was extremely cold and snowy. Fishing was pretty good but took a lot of patience. Had to go indicator less because they would spook. Ponds had rainbows, brooks, and browns.

Other Details: Fishing was fantastic. Not too many people and a midday BWO hatch. Fish were very active for cold temps. Fishing was great until about 3:00 and then started to slow down. Fish are both in deep and shallow water so walk slow. Watch your step also. A lot of snow down there right now.
East Carson River, CA September 28, 2008 22" Rainbow Trout Details: Fished along Hwy 4 above the bridge before the road to Wolf Creek. Dead drifted a Black Wooly Bugger #8 and hooked this fish near the end of the drift.
Flies Used: #20 Pheasant Tail Nymph and a #24 "Killer" (pea**** hurl and a red chenille tail.)
Technique: Indicator Nymphing
Weather: Freezing cold and windy in the morning, cold throughout the day but the wind lessened. Bright and sunny all day.
Details: Fished with my buddies, Christian and Alan. We fished Putah Creek at "the point" and downstream a bit from 7am to 4:30pm. Caught the monster trout of a lifetime...a 45 minute battle. A lot of big fish in the river. Watch out for the spawning beds. Tons of fun!
